I am not sure what is happening here, but I think of her as being in contact, here, with old friends who are no longer on this plane, and have become new beings. That may be wrong. The sense I have of Mavis is that she looks forward more than backward, as she is on her first pass through her journey.

I think that's a very good reading, in fact. Time & memories are quite fluid in this series, as they are in dreams; there's definitely a sense of transitions & phases of life.
