Welcome to Leicester

Welcome to Leicester
This was taken about 08.45 this morning it was still the same at 18.00 wonderful impression for visitors arriving at the station it sums up what a dirty filthy dump England is, the stuff on the pavement has been left by a beggar ( plenty of them ) not so much chewing gum as in the city centre, the cans and take away rubbish is everywhere
The statue in the background is Thomas Cook his first ever excursion was from Leicester to a Temperance meeting at Loughborough (about 10 miles the train consisted of open carriages)
I wonder what he would think of modern England

Günter Klaus, Tractacus, Aschi "Freestone", Janet Brien and 3 other people have particularly liked this photo

I'm pleased I'm not he only one who gets wound up, it makes me wonder how some people live like at home they go on a bus or train and think it's acceptable to leave their take away junk behind when they get off. If I'm carrying my camera in a town I put it on a wrist tether I've had 'spare change' merchants shouting the odds about my camera up to now I've resisted telling them if they had been working for 50 years and didn't spend their money on booze and drugs they could afford one

I cannot agree that England is a dirty, filthy dump Peter. This problem needs to be tackled by a brave government but we don't have one at the moment.

Sadly it's reality that photo could be any where, look down chewing gum just spit out, roadside verges covered in litter, bags of dog crap hung on bushes, mindless spray paint on buildings etc.the Victorians built a sewerage system that was the envy of the world now alleyways subways doorways stink.
You can't blame the government it's the someone will clean it up mentality, people who think is perfectly acceptable to get on a train or bus with takeaway food and drink get off and leave the packaging on the seat someone will move it. I had a set to with a man on a train a few weeks ago he was going to get off and leave me his rubbish because his season ticket was expensive he didn't see why he should move it !!! but it was me who got glared at by other passengers for opening my mouth needless to say no one supported me, he did move it !!

I think I must live in a different world to you Peter. Of course I hate litter and will pick it up myself when I can but the other things you mention I do not see at all. The government is always cutting money to councils and police force and wonder why they struggle. As for the mess the so called homeless leave, it's often due to a past of drugs or family problems and the root cause has to be tackled. I have seen the same problems in every country I have visited.
