I'm sure there must be a lot of the walking sticks in France, they are easy to recognize with all the leaf joints

là, je prends la discussion en cours et je ne distingue pas de quel végétal il s'agit sur la photo. dans les cévennes, chaîne montagneuse du sud de la france, il y a beaucoup de randonneurs qui utilisent des bâtons de marche en bambou.

Hello Flory it is a type of cabbage the leaves were used for animal food, there were various names for them Wikipedia says the French names were Chour and Chou a jacque, if you have trouble understanding ask Marie-claire Gallet her English is very good and will be able to translate what I wrote for you
