Bowes "Ordinary" 971
An "ordinary" hopper waggon - for 10t of coal. It was badly damaged by an arson attack in 2016, and was rebuilt during 2017 to early 2018, and returned to Bowes at the end of March 2018.

The waggon's remains arrived at Haltwhistle on 20th February. The first few images were taken during the initial inspection visit. The waggon was placed into the small workshop and allowed to dry out for a period of time. It was then recorded (to allow materials to be ordered) and dismantled. The ironwork was salvaged and sent off for shotblasting and then painted - a few parts have had to be replaced with new metal, and quite a few others repaired. A new Green Oak underframe was dry built (there is no glue, the whole vehicle is held together by the joints and bolts or tie-bars).
The next stages will be painting this underframe; then dry building the bodywork and the internal hopper, prior to painting the components and finally fully re-assembling. The last task will be to do the lettering.

The waggon returned to Bowes at the end of March 2018.
