{OK} NSR 228 (first class)

The Knotty Coach Trust have been entrusted with the care - and restoration - of NSR 228.

Initially, we restored two doors and built display units for the before and after views. This was mainly to support fund-raising efforts at both the Churnet Valley and Foxfield Railways.

In February 2017, NSR 228 undertook her longest journey, on the back of a lorry. She is now in our workshop in Haltwhistle. The first tasks was to assess the current condition of the carriage and write a detailed report, plus treat everything with a suitable timber preservative.

We had a meeting with the NSRRSRT to discuss the condition of NSR228 in late July 2017. A restoration programme will then be devised - including designing the luxury interior - and fundraising undertaken, meanwhile the carriage rests in our workshop. Design work on, and various alternatives, for the underframe have been discussed at length.

In June 2022, it was reluctantly decided to dismantle 228 [ Very Carefully ] and put the components into storage. Restoration is planned but NSRRSRT need to raise the required funds (some images to follow). At least one of the before & after door displays is to be refurbished in the next couple of weeks.
