{OK} JLD - Jack Lane at Dinas

In September 2015, the WHR held a gala based at Dinas. One of the engines there was "Jack Lane" built in 2006. We took the oldest apprentice from Hunslet (ref the Middleton Railway Gala) to Dinas so he could look at various resident and visiting Hunslet locomotives (Blanche, Lilla and so on).

His comment on the name "Jack Lane" - the address in Leeds for the Hunslet Engine Company - was that it is also known as "John Lane" on Sundays ...

It was quietly arranged for him to have a short footplate trip, he thoroughly enjoyed the ride and shunting demonstration, which pleased us all. Especial thanks to the driver, Andrew Foulds.

The green locomotive imaged here is named after the address of the original Hunslet Engine Company works located in Leeds. (These works was closed in 1995). "Jack Lane" was completed in 2006 by The Hunslet Engine Company, Lowfields Avenue, Leeds; which is now owned by L H Group Services in Staffordshire. As well as building and refurbishing locos of both standard and narrow gauge, Hunslet own the intellectual property rights to many loco builders, such as Andrew Barclay, Kerr Stuart, Greenwood and Batley, Avonside, and can supply components for many of these older makes of locomotive.
