Both a world famous icon and a movie star. Won the 2016 "Tree of the Year" run by the Woodland Trust.

Was felled overnight 27th-28th September 2023
[not by the storm "Agnes"]
as an act of wanton and mindless vandalism.

The remains of the tree are actually lying across Hadrian's Wall this morning.
I understand that Northumbria Police, the National Trust, Northumberland National Park and others are investigating ...

There are a lot of strong feelings being expressed locally - initially disbelief, but that is turning to grief, anger and disappointment etc

Finally, on 30April2024 the BBC news story www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-68931202 names are Daniel Graham, 38, and Adam Carruthers, 31, both from Cumbria.
