CAS started work, virtually straight from school - aged 14 - at Hunslet Engine Company, Leeds.
In the early part of WW2, CAS was working at Parnall Aircraft, Yate and then he moved to Newman Industries. There were at least two significant air-raids on 27th February and 7th March 1941, resulting loss of life and much damage to the factory.
