{OK} WYS (mww) - Miedzygorze & Wilczki Waterfall visit

Visit to the village of Miedzygorze on 5th August 2009.
Our arrival route had us drive past a number of large hotels and other buildings, including the new school / community centre.
There are still areas with rubble and damage from the severe flooding in 1997. This was caused by excessive runoff from torrential rain overtopping the dam. This stone structure was originally built early in the 20th Century to alleviate flooding by storage of up to I million cubic meters of water during storm or meltwater seasons.
After parking in the main facility, we walked to the Wilczki waterfall. This has been a tourist attraction since end of the 18th century. During the 19th century the local administration (German) decided to increase the popularity by introducing some new features, such as a metal bridge, viewing platforms and artificially raised the rocky threshold, so the waterfall was even higher at 30m .This artificial threshold was destroyed by flooding in1997, reducing the waterfall back to a natural 22 meters. [Which makes it the second highest in Sudetes mountains]. There are quite a few hiking trails into the reserve, with most popular accessed from the main road. There is a picnic and outdoor seating area across from the Dom nad Wodospadem building. Winter sports also, with two ski lifts.
