BDD - gracing BVR

Ben sitting in the middle of the compartment. He carried in the black rucksack behind him, I think he chose this one because it was the only carriage without other dogs and small children.
He is also waiting for me to fill his water bottle / bowl as he wants a drink.

What are the fold-down timber things between the seat and the door used for?
This space is wheelchair accessible, hence the fold down seats and double doors.

E2A - I've got the flags and "thunderer" - I used to be a guard on a N Wales narrow gauge railway.
Thanks for the info.
SO good to see a photo of you at last Fella !
