Scurdie Ness lighthouse, near Montrose

Scurdie Ness lighthouse, near Montrose
One of the many Stevenson lighthouses (this one was built by David and Thomas), opened in 1870. The elegant tower is 39 metres high.

It was a beautifully calm day, and very mild for the end of December. I liked how the little clouds were suggestive of waves.

A sort of fence around the top, so HFF!

PS. I love the little ochre-coloured horizontal band and the matching ochre lintels - unnecessary but very pleasing.

This is a really beautifully lighthouse.............the designers seems to have gone out of their way to make it pleasing to the eye as well as practical.

The light on the stonework and windows is just glorious and I especially like the wind vane right on the very top! You're right about the "waves".............and wonderful touch when planning your composition.
