New Year swim

New Year swim
My first swim of the new year today.

While parts of Europe, England and the south west of Scotland were buffeted today by stormy winds, the North Sea coast in East Lothian was surprisingly calm. As you can see, this little bay, between Gullane and Aberlady, was like a millpond. And there was even sunshine!

yes, it's my favourite stretch of coastline, Aberlady to North Berwick. There are so many coves and beaches that no matter what direction the wind or the position of the tide, you can nearly always find somewhere just right for swimming. And apart from the busiest days of summer, you can nearly always find somewhere just for yourself.

Beautiful................my kind of beach (i.e.deserted)! That scene could easily be somewhere in the Caribbean (if you ignore the water temperature). I can't believe you went swimming ;-))

and the really amazing thing is that this beautiful and often empty coastline is just half an hour outside Edinburgh!
