There is a solitude of space,
A solitude of sea,
A solitude of death, but these
Society shall be,
Compared with that profounder site,
That polar privacy,
A Soul admitted to Itself;
Finite Infinity.
"There is a Solitude of space" ~ Emily Dickinson
Falling leaves and Early snow

In the years to come they will say,
“They fell like the leaves
In the autumn of nineteen thirty-nine.”
November has come to the forest,
To the meadows where we picked the cyclamen.
The year fades with the white frost
On the brown sedge in the hazy meadows,
..............
Disheveled maples hang over the water;
Deep gold sunlight glistens on the shrunken stream.
Somnolent trout move through pillars of brown and gold.
The yellow maple leaves eddy above them,

Let the evening come

|
Let dew collect on the hoe abandoned
in long grass. Let the stars appear
and the moon disclose her silver horn.
Let the fox go back to its sandy den.
Let the wind die down. Let the shed
go black inside. Let evening come.
Excerpt: "Let the evening come" ~ Jane Kenyon
Twilight

Out-Worn heart, in a time out-worn,
Come clear of the nets of wrong and right;
Laugh, heart, again in the grey twilight,
Sigh, heart, again in the dew of the morn.
Excerpt: "Into the Twilight" ~ William Butler Yeats
Affirmation

|
Let us stifle under mud at the pond's edge
and affirm that it is fitting
and delicious to lose everything.
Excerpt: "Affirmation" ~ Donald Hall

Fallen tree

The tree the tempest with a crash of wood
Throws down in front of us is not to bar
Our passage to our journey's end for good,
But just to ask us who we think we are
Insisting always on our own way so.
She likes to halt us in our runner tracks,
..........
Excerpt: "Fallen Tree" ~ Robert Frost

In a field
I am the absence
of field.
This is
always the case.
Wherever I am
I am what is missing.
