It’s got a delightful sweet fragrance. So, this is oe of those trees that blooms very late in the year. A blooming bought it great to bring in for holiday arrangement, as the flowers will fill up a room with fragrance. The loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) is a large evergreen shrub or tree, grown commercially for its orange fruit and for its leaves, which are used to make herbal tea. It is also cultivated as an ornamental plant. The loquat is in the family Rosaceae, and is native to the cooler hill regions of south-central China.[2][3] In Japan the loquat is known as biwa (枇杷, びわ) and has been grown for over 1,000 years. The loquat has been introduced to regions with subtropical to mild temperate climates throughout the world.[4][5] Eriobotrya japonica was formerly thought to be closely related to the genus Mespilus, and is still sometimes mistakenly known as the Japanese medlar. It is also known as Japanese plum[6] and Chinese plum,[7] as well as pipa in China, naspli in Malta, Lukaat in India, Lucat in Sri Lanka, níspero in Spain, nêspera in Portugal, shések in Israel, akidéné in Lebanon, Ebirangweti in Kisii and nespolo in Italy (where the name is shared with Mespilus germanica). ~ Wiki

Sink hole

16 Jan 2023 3 1 67
The drama of creation, according to the Hawaiian account, is divided into a series of stages. . . At first the lowly zoophytes and corals come into being, and these are followed by worms and shellfish, each type being declared to conquer and destroy its predecessor, a struggle for existence in which the strongest survive. Parallel with this evolution of animal forms plant life begins on land and the sea -- at first with the algae, followed by seaweeds and rushes. As type follows type, the accumulating slime of their decay raises the land above the water, in which, as spectator of all, swims the octopus, the lone survivor from an earlier world. ~ Roland Dixon, Oceanic Mythology, 1916
