Sophia Charlotte (1668-1705) the sister of George I of Britain, became th first queen of Prussia as the wife of Fredrick I in 1701. She was the daughter of Ernest Augustus, the first elector of Hanover and Sophia daughter of Elizabeth, queen of Bohemia in 1684 she married Prince Fredrick, and greatly encouraged his patronage of learning.
