At the approach of a train, the red and white barriers slide down the pole - at the risk of decapitating motor cyclists - accompanied by bells and flashing lights. The gates on wheels I presume are used for when the barriers fail.

The end of Saltcoats Lane looking out over the River Irt, and the entrance to Saltcoats Caravan Park. This is a high spring tide of 8.5 metres on a calm day. There have been occasions in the past where a similar tide, along with a strong westerly gale, has pushed the water up higher and made it impossible to get in or out of the caravan park.

The road into, and out of, Ravenglass. The village is behind the camera, and the road on the right is the entrance to the car park which serves both the main line and Ravenglass & Eskdale railway stations.. The bridge in the distance carries the tracks of the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, and one of the two Pullman Camping Coaches can be seen to the right.
