The Highwayman
The Highwayman was a short lived train which ran in 1970/71, from Finsbury Park to Newcastle via Sunderland.
Despite appearances, I don't believe it was ever hauled by a Deltic, Class 40 being the regular power. It wasn't a particularly fast train, and I think it used to sit at Doncaster for about 25 minutes or so.
By todays standards it sounds unreal; 275 miles of Class 40 haulage. And all for 35/-, about £1.50 !

All photos now copied across from Flickr.
To mark this milestone, and for my first attempt at uploading a photo off the hard drive, I will post some Spam, for the first and only time.
Now to make a start on the backlog of pictures which have accumulated over the past couple of months or so.
