HFF Leicester East Midlands 13th September 2024
Another shot of Leicester Cattle Market which closed in December 1988 & today is a retail & leisure centre. However the gates, gatepiers and railings at the West Entrance of the old market off Aylestone Road have been preserved in situ.
The official listing states:
Circa 1870. Nine pierced cast-iron gate piers square in section with pilaster shafts at angles, pointed arch heads. Between are gates and railings with spandrels of linked rings. Two piers flanking centre gateway are higher with cast-iron cattle and rams heads in tympanum of archedhead facing in four directions. At ends red brick piers with similar but larger stone arched heads with animal heads.
