Dunwich Suffolk 9th August 2020

Dunwich Suffolk 9th August 2020
St James' church, Dunwich. The lost city of England.

In the Anglo-Saxon period, Dunwich was the capital of the Kingdom of the East Angles and in the 13th century it had 4000 inhabitants with an international port similar in size to 14th century London! It's difficult to believe that when today's village has only 183 people. Coastal erosion has destroyed over half the area of the old city which once extended 2km further out to sea.

HFF and have a great weekend.

My mother referred to passing on as "joining the larger throng". Looks like in Dunwich it might be especially true that the cemetery is more populated than the village ...
