It used to be logical in this country to use the fuel to hand - i.e. coal. The Chinese have a lot of it, so it probably makes economic sense to haul coal trains with coal-fired engines.

Very true Phil. Sadly even in China the diesels will take over when the output from Shibanzi reaches full scale.

That's we thought after waiting 4 hours for it to come! Still with 20+ wagons even the empties being worked up smokebox-first make for a fair load heading out of Nanzhan.
