Abandonment
A collection of abandoned farmhouses I have had the privilege to explore over the last year. Some are nearly empty, but some are full of personal furnishings and effects.I find them the most interesting, but at the same time, the saddest. You get a feeling of the owners lives, and the pain they would most certainly feel to have their life's history decaying for all the world to see...

a long winter's nap...
Abandoned in a forgotten northern Illinois farmhouse....
in the bleak midwinter....
In the bleak midwinter
Frosty wind made moan
Earth stood hard as iron
Water like a stone
Snow had fallen
Snow on snow on snow
In the bleak midwinter
Long, long ago....
Long abandoned northern Illinois farmhouse caught in the grips of winter's chill....

The plant at one time employed 4000 workers and still had nearly a 1000 in the early '70s. But more efficient ways of powering and heating became available and the plant was finally shuttered in 2002. Today only the badly dilipidated office building and this single metal smoke stack remain on the site....
