The beautifully restored station at Consall on the Churnet Valley Railway. The waiting shelter overhanging the Caldon Canal is a particularly well known feature of this location.

Cherry Eye Bridge over the Caldon Canal between Consall and Froghall. The name is thought to derive from the red-rimmed eyes of the iron ore miners (or Raddlemen) as they crossed over on their way home from work.

The terminal warehouse at Whaley Bridge on the Peak Forest Canal provided facilities for interchange between canal and the Cromford and High Peak Railway. The building was extended in the early twentieth century but today stands looking rather forlorn.

The two bridges over the Manchester Ship canal and Mersey Estuary between Runcorn and Widnes. The previous transporter bridge stood slightly closer to the camera which was on the Old Quay swing bridge. Old Quay lock can be seen between the canal and theMersey.

British Waterways were clearing up after the storms of the previous week when I visted Malkin's Bank near Sandbach. The narrowboat Malvern was being used to carry the chipped material from fallen and damaged trees. The light this afternoon was particularly good and the low sun picked out every detail.

The cast iron mileposts on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal were erected in around 1898. The posts are hollow with the distance plates attached. The city name is on the side nearest to the same place. This post is at Church, around the half-way point.

Somebody does not like the idea of canal restoration on their land! Arun Navigation near Wisborough Green, West Sussex. Shows an interesting mindset. I wonder if they were expecting a sudden arrival of a large band of navvies with shovels and wheelbarrows. 'We're going to restore the navigation'!!!!!!
