Outside Berresfords

Stoniers AEC Swift passing the Berresfords garage at Cheddleton late on a spring afternoon. Taken by my good friend John Ryan on one of our outings around Staffordshire in the early 1980s.

North Western in service. One of the 1962 Leyland Leopards with 36ft Alexander body stands outside the Plaza in Mersey Square, Stockport. It is in dual-purpose livery and could well be on the 27 service to Buxton.
Another of my home developed shots taken with my dad's camera.

Memories of bus travel in the 1960s with this recently discovered ticket that was lurking in a drawer that I was clearing out. I used to love travelling on North Western buses.
Leaving Crewe bus station
|
|
Crewe and South Cheshire Running Day sees our very own Renown at the wheel of former St Helens Transport / pretending to be Berresfords Motors AEC Swift EDJ244J shortly after leaving Crewe bus station.
Waiting at Weston
|
|
It may be a bit incongruous but this Routemaster outside the White Lion in Weston makes a fine sight during the Crewe and South Cheshire Running Day.
Stockport Corporation - PJA913

Stockport Corporation Transport Leyland Titan PD2/30 waiting by the Wellington Rd Bridge close to Mersey Square. The ten buses in this 1960 built batch had bodywork by Longwell Green.
Climbing out of Longton

|
Berresford liveried Leyland Leopard PSU4 on its return from Ford Green Hall on the morning of the Potteries Connection Classic Bus Running Day. I susequently had a most enjoyable run on this bus to the Foxfield Railway at Blythe Bridge.
Going away

The latest addition to the Berresfords fantasy fleet is yet to be badged up and yet was pressed into service after an injector failure on the Swift during the Potteries Running Day. Here it heads for Hanley and Ford Green soon after picking up outside Longton St James church.
Stunning paint job!

Potteries Connection Classic Bus Running Day. With Renown at the wheel the Berresford fantasy fleet Leyland Leopard PSU4 with Alexander Y type bodywork passes the pottery museum on the last run of the afternoon of service 6B to Ford Green Hall via Hanley Bus Station. What an absolutely stunning paint job - it looked great!
Crosville meets Arriva

|
Bristol RE TFM267K passes a departing Arriva service on the approach to Nantwich Bus Station during the recent Crewe and South Cheshire Running Day.
Airport Service

It's amazing what you can find in drawers and cupboards that you haven't looked in for a long time. This flyer for the Manchester City Transport Airport service I must have picked up in Manchester in 1967. I certainly remember the service starting in 1966 (I think) and the coaches as they were such a contrast to the red buses operated by the council in Manchester.
Running Day 2010
|
|
Potteries Omnibus Preservation Society owned 1949 Leyland Titan OPD2/1 heads away from the Gladstone Pottery Museum during the 2010 Potteries Running Day. Although the event had to be cancelled at short notice in 2011 it will go ahead on August 5th 2012.
The Andamooka half-cab

Another look at the Guy half-cab sitting in the late afternoon sunshine amidst the waste heaps of the Andamooka opal mines.

Hanley Bus Station Farewell
|
|
Flickr's very own Renown wrestles with the throaty ex Bournemouth Corporation Daimler Roadliner at the "Hanley Finale" running day. I was treated to a spirited run up to Bentilee and back in this bus. Thanks Martyn. :-)
The 1960s charms of Hanley Bus Station have somewhat faded, as have the surrounding buildings, the boarded-up remains of some of which are seen in the background. The new bus station is due to open some time soon, but then it was also supposed to be open towards the end of last year.
Mersey Square

Park Royal bodied AEC Renown 3B3RA loading up in Mersey Square, Stockport. In the background the first shoots of the Merseyway shopping centre can be seen on the site of the old tramsheds and fire station.
Between duties

Parked on the wasteland on the other side of Wellington Road from Mersey Square in Stockport are a 1963 AEC Reliance with Willowbrook bodywork, and a 1962 Dennis Loline III with Alexander body. The other bus to the right is another AEC. March 1968.
