Ropeway to the Wall

Ropeway to the Wall
Easy access to the steep heights of the Great Wall of China is attained by using this cablecar at Mutianyu. It is only a few years since tourists had to slog up many steps and slopes to reach the wall. The cars are lettered 'Great Wall Cable Car Service Coropration Ltd'.

I was there with a daughter's school trip in 2005 and there was some sort of cable car to go up and down. There was also a just opened louge / slipperydip thingy where one rode on a slippery mat in a stainless steel U-shaped channel to return from the Wall to the bus stop, which most of the group did. The few buildings around the bus stop and cable terminal there all smelt of fresh concrete.

Side note; while there in an unrestored fort structure I had a job interview by phone to Australia. Sadly I didn't get the job.
