Pumping station

Fulwell Pumping Station was built in 1853, designed by Thomas Hawksley. Constructed for the Sunderland and South Shields Water Company it began operating by 1856, powered by two 70 horsepower rotative pumping engines. The site is still operational using electric pumps. The enginehouse and attached boilerhouse is listed Grade II.
