Gate No.1

This was once the entrance to the 1835 Eagle Works of W K Peace & Co who made files and edge tools and also refined steel. Later it was renamed Horseman Works as part of the Global Steelworks and by 1930 was operated by Ibbotson Brothers producers of files and razor blades. In 1948 The W A Tyzack & Co bought the Green Lane site from Ibbotson Brothers and Co Ltd. of Sheffield, complete with file manufacturing business. The "Ibbotson" name and "Globe" trademark was added to their already existing "Horseman" brand of blades, files, hammers etc.
After a long decline the Tyzack business had been sold off and split up by 2008 and the works has subsequently been partly demolished and housing developed on much of the site. This gateway has been retained. Alma Street, Sheffield.
