Abercastle


Disused limekiln nestling into the hillside at the little harbour at Abercastle. This is typical of the small coastal kilns that operated in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. The fuel for burning local limestone would have arrived in small sailing vessels which often beached to unload their cargo into carts.
