The sun has yet to rise even though it is 9.10am and JS 8053 is returning to the stabling point at Nanzhan having delivered empty wagons to the Erjing Mine on the Sandaoling Coal Railway. The snow is a bonus as it rarely falls in the deserts of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the far west of China. The Tian Shan (Celestial Mountains) range looms in the background.
