Dane Bower Chimney

Dane Bower Chimney
This chimney stands just below the Congleton to Buxton road high up on the Dane Valley moors. It is the most obvious remaining feature of the Dane Bower Colliery which exploited the Ringinglow Coal seam that attained a thickness of 2ft 2ins in this area. On the hillside below there are the remains of an engine bed and a short distance away a capped shaft of 32 yards depth. The main extraction route was via an adit close to the river Dane. It appears that this mine was in operation until the 1920's.
