The word "Gull" in a thesaurus includes: deceive, delude, hoax, trick, mislead, lead on, take in, swindle, cheat.
This 'ocean rat' or 'sea raccoon' patrols the fringes of human activity and is quite successful doing so!
I made certain my wallet was secure when I saw this suspicious fellow - I am not so gullible as to trust his claims of innocence . . .
