I think the architect might have been the same one who designed Saint Day church in Cornwall. 1850s. Used questionable building material, although not known at the time, and the churches started to fall in on themselves in the early 19th century. If I'm wrong, I apologise!
this is in Bishopthorpe outside York, near to the archbishop's palace.
I always thought it was perhaps a folly, but it's hard to find any information about it.
It was just about to rain heavily, and so I snapped this quickly with my Holga - then realised I had left the lens cap on, so I had to run back and do it again :)
Back in those days I didn't have a digital camera, so would spend a fortune on film processing... but perhaps that was still cheaper than buying DSLRs that stop working after a couple of years..!
