Bow Valley Provincial Park

Spent a most enjoyable day today, west of Calgary, at Bow Valley Provincial Park (at the far eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains). Didn't do too well as far as photos go, but we did see some interesting things. These included several Common Nighthawks (Chordeiles minor) flying well below the mountain tops and then flying right over us while we were eating our sandwiches. I had never seen one of these birds before, and I knew they were something unfamiliar as soon as I noticed them against the distant backdrop of the mountains. They are beautiful when you see them flying overhead. We also had four Clark's Nutcrackers fly overhead in a different part of the park.
