Finally, I actually had a White-breasted Nuthatch fly down to my gloved hand today. My daughter had been lucky to have one fly down a couple of years ago. They tend to be very hesitant to do this, unlike the Red-breasted ones. I was surprised at how small the bird looked when it was on my hand - they look much bigger when further away, for some strange reason. Why was I wearing gloves? Because it was -17C when I went out this afternoon. Too cold to stand there till I got a better picture - maybe next time? Getting a high of about -24C tomorrow and it will get down to a low in the -30Cs over the weekend! This is nasty!
