Warning signs of this sort have been found in ancient Roman buildings such as the House of the Tragic Poet in Pompeii, which contains a mosaic with the caption cave canem.

Beh, i Romani erano conquistatori, magnifici architetti ed ingegneri, certo, pure crudeli( e chi non lo era a quel tempo ed anche ora ?!), di corpus legislativi ed amministrativi ne sapevano certo qualcosa, goduriosi, pure :-)
Ma, appunto si preoccupavano anche dell'incauto vicino di casa o piuttosto mettevano in guardia il probabile trasgressore della loro privacy / sicurezza ?!!:-)
