Yes, I am back after some research and the conclusion is astonishing.
So, the metal piece must wight about fifty kg for one of its purposes is to balance the weight of the gondoliere but because the CG of the Gondola is well aft it doesn't need to have the same wight than the man so far so good for the heavyweighjts...
The six forward pointing pronds, under the doge's traditional cap, represent the six sestieri of Venice and the back facing one the Giudecca Island.
What left me dreaming was that they have "ruled the waves" of the city for the last 1000 years.
