The "Magnificent Seven" is an informal name for the London cemeteries established during Victorian times, in the 19th century. As burial grounds were becoming overcrowded, a number of private cemeteries were given the go ahead by Parliament. They are no longer private, some still remain working cemeteries.
They are: Kensal Green Cemetery, 1833; West Norwood Cemetery, 1837; Highgate Cemetery, 1839 (West) & 1854 (East); Abney Park Cemetery, 1840; Brompton Cemetery; 1840; Nunhead Cemetery; 1840; Tower Hamlets Cemetery; 1841.
