SATURDAY SELF-CHALLENGE 15 DECEMBER 2018 "HOLIDAY STILL LIFE" I put some port in a glass but somehow the glass didn't look right in the shot so I drank it :-) I also ate the cheese 'cos the mouse wasn't hungry :-) I couldn't immediately find a song for 'Sight and Sound'. But, then I thought about "Lonely Saturday" by Gene Clark from his album "Two Sides To Every Story". I recently received an email from the guys that made the documentary "The Byrd That Flew Alone" to say that the documentary may soon be unavailable :-( I am so pleased that I purchased the DVD :-) Rest in Peace, Gene. This is part of the roof of Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire. For 'Sight and Sound', "Blue Sky" by Joan Baez came to mind :-) "Blue Sky" was written by Richard (Dickey) Betts of The Allman Brothers. I was saddened to read that just recently that Dickey suffered a freak accident that caused bleeding on his brain. The good news is that following brain surgery Dickey is making a recovery and it is hoped he will be well enough to celebrate his 75th birthday on December 12th. I wish him well and "A Very Happy 75th Birthday". "Blue Sky" features on Joan's 1975 album "Diamonds & Rust". I mustn't leave out the original version by The Allman Brothers from their 1972 album "Eat A Peach". Explored! Thank you very much :-) SATURDAY SELF-CHALLENGE 10 NOVEMBER 2018 NEGATIVE SPACE PHOTOGRAPH IN COLOUR OR B/W. PLEASE KEEP POST PROCESSING MINIMAL This building in Hemel Hempstead is some 20 storeys high and I planned to zoom in to the top of the building with the hope there would be some blue sky and maybe some wispy clouds :-) As it turned out it was dull and 'orrible! The sky was just a lifeless grey. I decided to click on the grey part with the 'set white point' dropper in Photoshop Elements to see what would happen. I think white works better than grey here. And, I was pleased that a bird flew into my shot just as I pressed the shutter :-)) Also, for 'Sight and Sound' - An album entitled "Gene Clark - Flying HIgh" featured some of Gene's very best work. I have, therefore, chosen "Past Addresses" from this album. One of my many faves by Gene. Recorded after Gene had left The Byrds. Explored! Thank you very much :-) SATURDAY SELF-CHALLENGE 3 NOVEMBER 2018 "THIS CHALLENGE WILL BE ABOUT "FORCED PERSPECTIVE", OR CREATING AN ILLUSION USING DIFFERENT DISTANCE FOR TWO SUBJECTS". I would liked to have come up with an original idea but failed!!! I saw examples of 'Forced Perspective' using the sky, clouds and a paintbrush so I asked 'Worzel Gummidge' (made by my late mother) to paint the sky for me :-) Also, for 'Sight and Sound' - Worzel Gummidge is a scarecrow and there don't seem to be too many 'scarecrow' songs but I did come across "Scarecrow" by Alex & Sierra :-) I don't know anything about them. Explored! Thank you very much :-) This is a sundial in the grounds of Canons Ashby, a National Trust property and garden in Northamptonshire. I believe the sundial dates from the 1700's but I could be wrong :-) A sundial tells the time of day and I have chosen "Time in a Bottle" by Jim Croce for 'Sight and Sound' :-) Tragically, on September 20, 1973, Jim Croce and five others died when their chartered plane crashed into a tree during take-off from the Natchitoches Regional Airport in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Explored! Thank you very much :-) SATURDAY SELF-CHALLENGE 27 OCTOBER 2018 "EVERYONE CAN CHOOSE SOMETHING THEY'VE LEARNED HERE IN SSC AND TAKE A PHOTO USING THIS TECHNIQUE. YOU CAN EXPLAIN WHY YOU LIKE USING THE TECHNIQUE". HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, EVERYONE :-) Despite the best intentions I often take photos with the camera at 6 feet off the ground looking straight ahead :-) The last challenge (Looking Up) made me stop and think about my photography a bit more. I have started to spend more time studying the scene/subject before pressing the shutter. And, I've been taking quite a few shots looking up!
