Hike to Rogue Gorge

This hike, which we attended with our Southern Oregon Meetup hiking group was lovely and wonderful in so many ways. There was a feeling of walking among giants here, meandering through a great forest of trees of all sizes and ages. I felt as if I were being watched by ancient spirits, who looked down upon me from great height, and peered curiously at me from across the river. I was amazed at the overwhelming number of "tree spirits" that I saw as I made my way quietly along the pine needle-covered trail, and I spent a lot of time looking up at them with a smile on my face. Though most were alive, many of the "tree people" were dead, but still showed the great character they had in life, and I appreciated them all. It was very peaceful and tranquil most of the time, with the songs of birds mixing with the breeze brushing leaves against one another. At other times, one had to shout to be heard over the roiling river rapids at the Rogue Gorge, and looking at the raging water boiling through with such force was actually a frightening sight to behold. The forest and the river were lovely, and here and there were many flowers to appreciate, from almost impossibly small to the lovely, large dogwood blossoms which were soon to drop their last petals for the season. Ferns were everywhere along the trail, with unfurling leaves and greens of almost glowing luminosity to deep dark richness. And where there was metal, there was rust to appreciate as it attacked cables, bolts, and the bridges which crossed the river. Many wonderful objects to look at and enjoy.
