Tunnel 13
The photography group we're part of went to this interesting site just south of Ashland, Oregon, which has an abandoned train track and tunnel and some old buildings. The first snow of the season had just fallen and the temperature was very cold, so the scene was very wintery indeed! Had a lot of fun taking many types of shots!

Train Track and Jet Stream
On the other side of the tunnel, the train track emerged into the bright sunshine and made its way around a bend. Above, a jet stream painted a pretty streak throught the sky.

Building Bolt
This is one of a stack of bolts on one building and I loved the textures and colors on it!

Icicles
Outside the tunnel, there were a number of abandoned buildings. A couple of them had rows of icicles on the edges of the roofs. Nature's jewelry! :)

Tunnel Skeleton B/W
The ceiling within the train tunnel was like a rib cage, and I couldn't help myself from taking many different photos!

Light at the End of the Tunnel
Have you ever walked through a train tunnel before???!! I got to do this today!! Tunnel 13 is an old abandoned train tunnel just south of Ashland, Oregon, and was the destination of our photography club. You can--and we did--walk from one side to the other, and what a special adventure that was.
I walked through by myself without a flashlight; the light from either end of this tunnel made enough light to see my way. At several points I stopped and just listened. The frosty breeze blew past my face, and it was completely, utterly silent except for the dripping of water from above, splashing into inky black pools below. The cold air smelled damp but clean, like the smell of snow, and each end of the tunnel was white with light, and usually had at least one photographer there, taking pictures of this extremely cool place. I feel very lucky to have had this experience, and hopefully you will enjoy my pictures that I'll be posting over the next few days of the tunnel and area around it! Tonight I'm posting 5 pictures...ENJOY!
Thanks to all of you who have left comments and fav'ed my images! I appreciate them all! If you leave a comment, I try very hard to return the favor on the same day. I consider it both a compliment that you've taken the time to tell me what you think about my image(s) and an invitation for me to come see your photography as well!
By the way, for those of you who may not know, there is a very fun, free Flickr competition site which you might like to take part in. It's called FlickrDuel and features dozens of ongoing competitions, or duels every day. You can enter your pictures into many different categories and vote on contests too. It's another way to enjoy your photography!

Rusty Bolt: Selective Color
This particular image was perfect for turning into a selective color shot--only the bolt was colorful!

Impaired Overhead Clearance!
I loved how this sign appeared to be leaning into the tunnel with this perspective. In actuality, it was off to the side much more than you would think. I walked here and there until I found just the right position to highlight this fun sign! :)

Beautiful Snow in Light and Shadow
One of the fun things about this photography trip was the SNOW! We haven't seen any since about May or June, so it was lovely to see it again! Since I was born and raised in San Francisco, snow will always be something special to me!
