A wind gap (a pass formerly occupied by a thru-going stream) in south-central Utah, at the edge of the Great Basin. The inset shows the approach to the gap from the west. It was a route both for emigrants and Native Americans, the latter's passage marked by a large number of petroglyphs:

It's still on a paved county road, so it remains a thoroughfare even if no longer the major route.

Parowan Gap, Utah. I've gone ahead and geotagged the pic because they're right on a paved road, complete with BLM interpretive signs, and are even shown on the Utah atlas. So there's no point in pretending the site is little-known! The insets show more petroglyphs in the area.
