Donner Lake

Looking west to the Sierra Nevada crest, on the way to Donner Summit. Just outside the town of Truckee, California, and just off Interstate 80. Yes, this is the site where the ill-fated Donner Party wintered over on their way to California: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donner_Party There's now a state park and interpretive center here. The classic account of the Donner Party remains George R. Stewart's _Ordeal by Hunger_. In contemporary accounts the lake is called "Truckee" Lake. Btw, the lake is natural and of glacial origin.
