As the name suggests, this was (purportedly, anyway) a silver strike, dating from the 1860s. ("Plata" = "silver" in Spanish.) However, the "strike" had much more to do with promotion and hype than with actual metal values, and no production took place altho some prospect pits and shafts were dug.
