Massacre Rim(Oct 22)

This is a fault-block escarpment in northern Washoe County, Nevada that forms the northwestern border of a Dark Sky Sanctuary recognized by the International Dark-Sky Association. (The grim name is said to result from supply caches mistaken for graves.) It's ironic because Washoe County contains Reno at its southern tip, and so is considered "urban" by the U.S. Census Bureau. The county stretches some 170 miles up to the Oregon border, though, and the northern part is as remote and unpopulated as anywhere in the conterminous 48 states. The clear high desert air makes for exceptional astronomical "seeing;" hence the designation! Here are a couple of links:
