No, not _that_ Crater Lake! And it's not the (misnamed) Crater Lake south of Lake Tahoe, which is actually in a cirque. This lake really is in the summit crater of a volcano northwest of Susanville, California, not far from SR 44.

Crater Lake

No, not _that_ Crater Lake! This is a much smaller lake in northeastern California. It _does_ occupy a volcanic crater, anyway. The road down into the crater was still largely snowed in, so that kept the crowds down--we walked. The inset shows the view off to the left.
