Spoil heaps overgrown with good-sized pine trees. This is the Onion Valley Mine in Plumas County, California, just off the Quincy-La Porte highway. It was a hard-rock mine for gold, probably last seriously active in the 1930s altho there is a current(!) mining claim posted (left inset).
