Been there a while...
Spoil heaps overgrown with good-sized pine trees. This is the Onion Valley Mine in Plumas County, California, just off the Quincy-La Porte highway. It was a hard-rock mine for gold, probably last seriously active in the 1930s altho there is a current(!) mining claim posted (left inset). The right inset shows a view of the building poking out from behind the trees. Telephoto view; location is of the spoil heaps rather than the photo point.
Building, Onion Valley Mine
Plumas County, California, just off the Quincy-La Porte highway. It appears they may have done some small-scale milling here. This was a hard-rock mine worked for gold, probably last seriously in the 1930s altho there is a current mining claim posted.
Mining claim
At the Onion Valley Mine, Plumas County, California, just off the Quincy-La Porte road. Judging by the size of the trees growing on the spoil heaps, this mine was last seriously active in the 1930s--but the claim is current! It's a hard-rock mine for gold.
