Beaver River
Rising in the mountains of central Utah, along the Wasatch Front, and flowing westward into the Great Basin, where it originally petered out into the Sevier Desert. It seldom gets that far now because of diversions for irrigation. This area here has been the subject of a riparian restoration effort, mostly involving the removal of non-native shore vegetation. Near Minersville, Utah.
Black-tailed jackrabbit
Lepus californicus . One of the most common lagomorphs in western North America. It's actually a hare rather than a true rabbit--it runs (as seen here), rather than hops, and the young are born fully furred and able to run. Seen in the lot in front of our motel in Baker, Nevada, outside Great Basin National Park. This guy better develop some 'fraidness, or he's not long for this world!
Chipmunks playing
These are true chipmunks ( Tamias spp.) because the stripes continue onto the face. They're a bit blurry because they're moving so fast! Off the trail between Stella Lake and Teresa Lake in Great Basin National Park, Nevada.
