Another for PamJ

Another gigantic Sierra juniper; perhaps originally a triplet, with the third trunk now dead and fallen toward us. Left inset shows the scale, with my walking stick; right insets show different views of this tree. Off the Pacific Crest Trail between Lower Sunset Lake and Wet Meadows Reservoir, Sierra Nevada, California.

Pam J, Eve, ColRam and 2 other people have particularly liked this photo

Thanks, everyone! I hope Pam likes it. Ron, we've been doing parts of the PCT locally as dayhikes from our house!

Wow!!! SO BIG! What a gloriously gnarled thing with great shape and texture. Fascinating to learn in may have been a triplet! TY for the insets, I love seeing them!

It's a worthy addition to my collection! ;) I have a lot of photos of these so-called "Sierra junipers"--we were originally told that occurrences were rare, but that's not the case! You find them all over the eastern Sierra typically on more open slopes that are too dry for the other conifers. Pam has really liked them, so I'll post some more along.
