Winter Ridge (or Rim)

Winter Ridge (or Rim)
Looking pretty much south from Fremont Point, Oregon. Summer Lake lies in the basin to the left; Oregon State Route 31 runs along the right (west) side of the lake, between it and Winter Ridge. Winter Ridge (a.k.a. Winter Rim) is said to have gotten its name from the John C. Fremont expedition when they arrived here in December, 1843--in 3 feet of snow! They also named Summer Lake because of the contrast. The burned trees date from a fire in 2002. My wife took this with her iPhone--the inset is a pic almost from the same place on my Galaxy S7 Android phone. Maybe I'll just give up on the SLR! ;)

Both photos look good. I haven't gotten the knack for phone photos yet. The main problem for me is just that the phone is so light/small I can't hold it steady, and then can't figure out the controls.

There's a learning curve, but the controls are awful small for someone with normal-sized hands--and carrying a stylus quickly gets impractical. It's also easy to end up with blurry photos--evidently the autofocus takes a couple of seconds to click in.

I've ended up with blurry too often. Mine seems to be good for closeups, but I haven't figured out how to use it for landscapes. Admittedly, I just like the size of the SLR for most photos. I do carry a smaller point-and-shoot for when the size of the SLR becomes a problem, and that's worked out fairly well.
