Meadow Lake
Sierra Nevada, California, USA. A small reservoir northwest of Donner Summit. The original dam dates to the 1850s, during the latter part of the Gold Rush, probably for hydraulic mining.

Pretty close! This is near Henness Pass road, which is parallel to I-80 about 15 miles north. It was one of the major routes over the Sierras in the 1800s, and still has a partly paved road. The Meadow Lake road makes a loop off the Henness Pass road, and is _not_ in good shape in the western part.
