I think the quartz-rich unit here (mapped as "felsite" caldera fill) has been faulted and recemented by more silica-rich fluids. That would account for the shows of mineralization--there's an abandoned claim right here that obviously saw a lot of activity at one point. This is off South Twin River Canyon in the Toiyabes--one of these days I'll get these new pix put into that album!

I just realized that's larger than I had originally thought, that's a full grown tree in the foreground. I's only been in recent years that I really started noticing rock formations, for too many years I thought of them all as "just rocks" and didn't have the patience to try to understand them. But, having so much remains from volcanic activity in the areas I now explore, it's all getting more interesting and would be interesting to hike with someone who can explain it. Still, though, I haven't figured out how to take good pictures of formation.
